Ways To Lose Weight Without Exercising

Many of us would love to find ways to lose weight without exercising and although this is possible there aren't many ways of doing this. One diet however that allows us to achieve this is a diet based around calorie shifting.

Calorie shifting is a relatively new idea but it certainly is very effective and many are losing weight using the method without doing any exercise at all. Here is a quick brief of how the diet works.

The majority of diets are based around a low calorie diet and the emission of a food group from our diet. Although these can provide results for a very short period they don't continue to work and usually end up with you weighing more than you did when you started.

The reason for this is that by combining low calorie intake and the loss of a food group your body senses it is been starved and slows down your metabolism, which is of course what helps us to burn calories. It also stops your metabolism from burning fat as it wants to store this as an energy reserve. Instead our body burns lean muscle which apart from being unhealthy will also increase your appetite.

An increase in your appetite will usually result in a failed diet. The problem with that is when you start to eat as you used to you will gain weight faster because your metabolism is still working at a slower rate.

Shifting calories instead allows us to eat each food type but rotates when we eat them. This confuses the body and fools it into believing you are not on a diet and so keeps the metabolism working at a higher rate.

This results in fast and safe weight loss, which isn't something you come across often. If your looking for ways to lose weight without exercising you will also be pleased to know that the diet only suggests a brisk walk each day but even without this the diet still works just as well.

A Weight Loss Success Formula: 12 Quick Tips

Follow these twelve simple tips to kickstart (or reinvigorate) your weight loss program.

1. Write down your weight loss goals. Make sure each goal is realistic, and that you have included a time line. Break down larger long-term goals into monthly or weekly goals so you can stay on track without feeling overwhelmed. Its important to commit these goals to paper, so write them down and display your goals where you will see them each day.

2. Each time you reach a goal, reward yourself with a treat. For best results, this treat shouldnt be any kind of food. Reward your new healthy lifestyle with a 30-minute massage, a new exercise video anything that celebrates you and your success without sabotaging it.

3. Drink lots of water. Stay hydrated by drinking -ounce of pure (bottled or filtered) water for every pound of body weight. That means, if you weigh 150 pounds, you need to be drinking 75 ounces of water each day or between 9 and 10 8-ounce glasses.

Drink a glass of water immediately upon waking. And, throughout the day, everytime you feel your energy levels start to dip, drink another glass. Pure bottled or filtered water can really give your mood a boost.

4. Eat a nutritious breakfast. Start your day off right with a nutritious meal, and include some form of protein. For maximum energy and concentration throughout the day, include complex carbohydrates, such as natural whole-grain cereal or bread, as well as a low-fat protein, such as skim milk, cottage cheese, or low-fat yogurt.

5. Get in the habit of exercising every day. Your daily exercise regimen doesnt have to be strenuous. It just needs to be consistent. And there are lots of ways to avoid boredom and to get excited by your daily exercise routine. Try walking or jogging outside instead of on the treadmill. Or listen to a motivational book-on-tape or mp3 as you work out.

6. Eat for health. Think about food in terms of bang for your buck. Opt for nutrition-dense foods.

7. Eat for energy. Whenever you overeat, you rob your body of energy. Think of food as fuel. Keep an energy journal in which you log the way your body and mind respond to different food choices.

8. Help your mind and spirit to accept and welcome your new body image with behavior modification techniques. A subliminal or non-subliminal audiotape or CD, for example, can help you envision yourself as a fit, lean, healthy person who loves to exercise.

9. Subscribe to a healthy-living or fitness magazine. These magazines feature low-calorie, nutrient-rich recipes as well as inspiring weight-loss success stories.

10. Stop eating after dinner.

11. Join a support group. This can be a group of family members or neighbors all committed to improving their health - or a simple online weight loss community. Talking about our daily challenges and victories is highly motivating.

12. Track and record your weight loss efforts, in detail. You can do this on a hand-written chart, a simple computer spreadsheet, or in a journal or computer program designed for this purpose. Track your food intake, water intake, and exercise for the day. And make sure to weigh-in at the same time each week, so that you can track your weight loss results, too.

Natural Weight Loss is the Only Path to Permanent Ftiness

We as educated people need to start getting angry at all the junk aimed at us everyday. The average American sees thousands of ads each and every day for everything from diet pills to prescription drugs.

Most promise a quick cure for whatever ails us. The weight loss industry alone is estimated to be over $35 Billion dollars annually, so marketing and ads play a vital role in keeping us interested and buying.

Now we have come up with RLS, (restless leg syndrome). This will probably be a new "chronic condition" treated by an existing prescription drug, allowing it to continue generating profits longer

We need to start using our heads and understand what weight loss is and what it means. Losing weight alone is not the most important thing. We citizens of western countries are too fat. Losing fat and losing weight are two distinctly different things.

Also distinctly different is how we lose the weight / fat.

A pound of fat equals about 3500 calories. To burn 3500 calories you would need to reduce your daily caloric intake by 500 calories per day for one week, while remaining constant at your current activity level, or you could consume the same number of calories daily and exercise more to burn 500 calories per day. To burn 500 calories through exercise you would need to ride a stationary bike, as an example, for about 1 & hours per day at a rate of about 25 MPH average. Or you could do a combination of decreasing by 250 and burning 250.

The claims that you can "lose 30 pounds in 30 days" are weight not fat. To lose 30 pounds of fat in 30 days you would need to burn 105,000 calories in excess of what you eat, which I'm sure we all agree isn't likely.

Claims aimed at fast weight loss are telling you, you'll lose weight not fat. Fat is harmful to the body not weight per se.

Rapid weight loss through severely restricted caloric intake causes the body to react as if it were sick. It is conditioned to say "Oh Oh"; I'm in trouble I'd better conserve energy. I may not get more food for awhile.

Fat is stored energy. What the body then conserves is fat. It does exactly what you don't need or want it to do, it slows your metabolism, burns lean muscle mass for energy and conserves the fat.

The rapid weight loss that happens the first 30 days is water. Muscle contains about 3 times as much water as fat. So if you lose a pound of muscle you're losing 3 pounds of water with it.

That's why diets alone slow down, there's only so much water to get rid of.

You can't blame the ad agencies, or the diet program companies, people are being sold what they want to buy. They want a quick fix to a problem without sacrifice or change.

The truth is once you learn what the body needs and how it works there is no great need for sacrifice. You can eat nearly anything you want, just less of it, and exercise more.

We are just so conditioned to instant gratification, that we're always awaiting the next miracle drug to make us all look like Hollywood celebrities. The $35 billion is just giving us what we demand.

Obesity has grown by over 20% in the last decade, in spite of the fact we are spending $35 Billion a year on weight management products. Does that suggest to anyone maybe they aren't working?

Well it did to me so I did two years of research on the subject and was shocked at what I learned. It might do all of us some good to do the same research.

Exercise For Women Over 40

The last of the baby boomer turned forty in the year 2000, and this is a generation that has revealed that it has no intention of going gently into old age or declining health! Many women fear the age of forty as the beginning of an inevitable decline but when you take a real look around, you'll see that nothing could be further from the truth. Women of this age and older are maintaining healthy lifestyles, exploring new types of exercise and in some cases are far healthier than they were while they were in their twenties and thirties!

When you are looking for a way to stay in shape, don't think of an exercise regimen that will sap your energy and make you groan every time to do it. You'll find that if you really have an interest in a particular activity, you will do it for longer than you intended to, do it more regularly and be less resentful every time you do it. If possible, you can take some time to learn a new activity that will let you accomplish a life goal. Have you ever wanted to snorkel off the Great Barrier Reef? Take some time to become a better swimmer. Have you ever wanted to hike the Appalachian Trail? Give yourself a year to get in shape to do just that.

You can also find exercise that will make you feel more womanly and help you remember that you are beautiful no matter what your age is. Look at various types of dancing and realize that there's never a bad time to dance. Belly dancing is a great way to emphasize your favorite parts of yourself, while jazz, tap and traditional Irish dance can get your heart going like nothing else will!

Remember that boredom and frustration are some of the biggest things that keep us from exercising, so shake it up. Find one activity that you really like, whether that is rock climbing, ju jitsu or dance, and pick up other activities to help you do it. For instance, when warming up to tackle a rock climbing wall, some yoga is a great thing to get you started. Learning yoga can complement the rock climbing and keep your routine interesting.

Similarly, remember that your exercise should suit you in terms of convenience and that it should fit into your day easily. Can you easily get to the gym, or do you need something that you can do at home? Also, remember that there's no reason you can't start slow and work your way up. It can take as much as 3 months to see change so be patient, with yourself and whatever program you've decided on. Be safe as well, and start with a lot of good stretching and remember to dress appropriately.

Just because you're past forty doesn't mean that it's all downhill from here! Get active, find a form of exercise that you can love and you'll find yourself feeling better than ever. 5 Fast Weight Loss After Pregnancy Tips and Tricks

For fast weight loss after pregnancy, tips and tricks that emphasize the importance of physical exercise as well as knowing as much as you can about nutrition are the best forms of defense for keeping those extra pounds at bay. Although the rich and famous make it look incredibly easy, you really don't need a host of personal trainers and state of the art equipment for losing weight after having a baby.

Combining smart, healthy eating, exercise, and the right mind set, it really is possible to regain your familiar figure. Here are five fast weight loss after pregnancy tips and tricks that any new mother can do to quickly get back in shape while enjoying motherhood.

1. Breastfeed: Not only will your baby benefit from being breastfed, but you will too as you'll be burning more calories than mothers who choose to bottle feed. New mothers do have to consume more calories, however, studies have shown that most women tend to burn those calories faster than if they were not breastfeeding their babies.

2. Realize the benefits of exercise: Join forces with friends, family, your co-workers, or other new moms to get together to regularly exercise. Bring the babies along for a walk in the park and make pushing the stroller a part of your workout.

Walking is something you can start doing within a week of giving birth, unlike some exercises. For at least six to eight weeks, avoid any exercises that are particularly exerting, such as running or jogging, until your body has had the chance to fully recover from the pregnancy.

3. Stay well rested: Besides giving you more energy and helping you to feel better in general, sufficient amounts of sleep helps your body to properly regulate hormones, which in turn, directly affect your appetite.

Finding enough time to sleep is one of the trickiest tasks for new moms, but if you sneak in an hour or so every time your baby naps, you should be able to compensate for the sleep you're sure to lose during the night.

4. Snack frequently: Snacking on healthy foods frequently helps rev up the metabolism, gives us more energy, which ultimately increases our productivity, generating more endorphins in the brain and helping us to just feel better in general.

Satisfy your brain's need to snack as well as satiating your hunger by nibbling on things such as raw vegetables, which are crunchy and great with a low-fat dip, or pretzels, an excellent low-fat snack food, and fruits that provide a solution for the sweet tooth.

5. Use a smaller plate: The old saying, "The eyes are often bigger than the stomach" holds true for many people, but using a smaller plate is one way of battling this phenomenon. Actual studies have been done on both men and women who were given different sized dinnerware to see how they may have influenced how much the participants ate. Sure enough, the bigger the plate, the more food that was consumed, and the worse the person felt physically after overeating.

Portion control must be a priority for effective weight loss, and using a smaller plate can be an incredibly easy alternative than measuring or weighing your foods.

Shedding pregnancy pounds doesn't have to be a challenge. Visit http://www.pregnancyweightloss.net and discover what other moms already know, you can easily lose your baby weight without unhealthy fad diets and starvation techniques.

How To Lose 10 Pounds In 1 Week - Dieters Extreme!

If you are aiming at fast weight loss there is only one way to go. To get rid of excessive fat you will need to do 2 things. 1) You need to go on a proven fat burning diet and 2) Exercise in a way that improves the result of the diet.

Choosing diet isn't that hard. You should pursue a calorie shifting diet that will boost your metabolism into burning fat like never before. During the first cycle of dieting it is quite possible to lose 10 pounds in 7 days. The result of the diet comes from many factors and the more you initially weigh the more you will lose. This is because your insulin levels will stabilize and you will lose some water weight. Shifting calories according to a certain scheme will increase your metabolism and have it going at full speed ahead meaning that it will open up your fat cells and release a lot of the fat.

Choosing exercise program is a bit more difficult. You want to lose weight so if you do too much weight lifting you'll gain muscle and weight. On the contrary, if you do too little weight lifting you will lose muscle mass and we don't want that either.

I found that combining cardio-exercising and weight lifting was a great way. I have a free program over at my site. Look below for link. This program is built to burn fat and it burns fat all day and all night. The program should be done about 2-3 times per week. If money isn't an object you should try Turbulence Training as this is a full program.

Jennifer Olsen was a master of failing at different diets. She understood that there were more to losing weight then just going on a diet. Today she has lost nearly 50 pounds with the calorie-shifting diet and meanwhile she has finished reading 'Burn The Fat, Feed The Muscle' and she is implementing what she learned into daily activities.

She made a mini-site that gives examples of diets, complete fast weight loss diets and reviews of books that helped her stop living the unhealthy life and turning around into a more healthy life-style. If you are interested in learning more please Click Here!

5 Fast Weight Loss Tips

We all want to lose a bit of weight, and a change in diet and mental attitude towards food can really bring huge benefits in the long term. But what about when you want to lose weight quick! Maybe you have a wedding to go to, or you are going on holiday and need a beach body? Don't despair, follow these 5 fast weight loss tips and you can get yourself looking trim faster than ever, just be sure to also work on your long term techniques after the event so it doesn't come back!

Let's look at each one in turn:

Working out more - yes, I'm afraid there is some work involved in this one, if you are not exercising already then you need to start. You can't just jump into a vigorous routine though, if you are stretched for time then go for a one hour walk a day, non-stop, no stopping to talk to people along the way and wasting the hour, one hour of solid walking. This will start to have a dramatic effect when combined with the other fast weight loss tips.

If you are already exercising then you need to take it to the next level, either increase the intensity or the frequency of your workouts, maybe add a one hour walk onto the days where you don't go to the gym as well.

Eating breakfast - some people think that skipping meals will help them to lose weight, wrong! Skipping breakfast is the biggest mistake people make. When you wake up your body is conserving energy as it doesn't know if and when you will eat again. By eating breakfast you are telling it that food is available and your metabolism increases so you actually burn up more fat during the rest of the day.

Drink lots of water - water has lots of health benefits so we know we should drink it, but did you also know it is an appetite suppressant? If you are hungry you can drink water and it will fill you up so you are less hungry, try to drink about 8 glasses a day to get the best effects.

Eat lots of fibre - fibre fills you up just like water so that you feel less hungry and are less likely to snack. An added benefit is that it cleanses out your system so that you feel less bloated and stuffy and it gets rid of old waste in your system to help you feel better, when you feel better you are more likely to exercise!

Replace snacks - trying to cut down on snacking is actually counterintuitive, you need to have lots of small meals during the day rather than 3 large meals, so snacking is important. The problem is snacking on the wrong things.

If you try to stop snacking you will more than likely lose the battle with your willpower! You have to replace it so you get the psychological satisfaction of snacking but you are doing it in a healthy way. Try eating nuts & dried fruit during the day instead of chocolate.

If you follow these fast weight loss tips you will start to see rapid improvements in your energy levels and your body, keep it up until that event and then moderate it afterwards to make sure the weight stays off!

#1 Missing Factor in Weight Loss Programs

Trying to lose weight all on your own will never work.

It's that simple.

So here's what "social support" means, and how to get it.

Social support is probably one of the missing ingredients that people don't realize how important that is to achieve. Not only fitness goals, but really any goals in life. For example, to achieve your business goals you have to have support of other business minded people to help you.

If you want to stop drinking you've got to hang around people that don't drink. In this day and age, our social groups are a lot different now. There's a lot more internet based, for better or for worse, but the positive power of these internet based groups can be huge, especially now as they get more specific.

Going on the internet can help. If you use the Turbulence Training member forums, you'll get the best help. There are forums specific for moms that are trying to lose body fat.

So, we're able to get more specific now and that way you don't have to go through a lot of various stuff to get to the specific stuff. You just go right to the specific stuff that's helping you with your specific problem. So there's all sorts of good stuff out there on the internet so hopefully people will be able to find it. But these networking sites and forums and that type of stuff are very, very helpful.

Social support means getting at least one person, and preferably a lot more people, to encourage you, check up on you, motivate you, keep you in line, and keep you on track. You need to be accountable to these people. You need to state your goals to these people.

By doing this, you will have a greater chance of success. You can also workout with someone to get the maximum benefits of social support.

Scientists know that partnering up with a friend will help you lose fat.

So stick with winners. Partner up with someone to get help and get their success to rub off on you.

You sometimes need to pay someone for the right social support. Research shows that being accountable to an authoritative figure also increases your chance for success.

And finally, although there isn't a research study to support me, I know that hanging around the right people will help you lose fat, while spending time with the wrong people will stop you from reaching your goals.

For example, if you continue to hang around beer-drinking, wing-eating friends 4 days of the week, expect to have a beer drinker's body.

Now, I'm not saying you can't have one special night out per week, but I am saying keep it to one night out, and limit the beer and wing intake.

Sacrifices have to be made, but it is a lot easier to make them when you have a social support team that is there helping you choose the right foods and do the right workouts.

Can I Exercise My Abs While Doing a Full Workout?

Why concentrate solely on your abs and thereby extend your workout time by more than it needs to be. We are all busy people, so fast but efficient is what we are all seeking when it comes to working out. What about some better options for high intensity, metabolism boosting workouts that work your entire body, while working the abs.

Here is an ab workout that doesn't include any direct ab exercises at all. It's in a tri-set format.

1. Dumbbell Rows: start in a pushup position with the hands on 2 dumbbells. You then row (lift) one dumbbell up while using the other arm to stabilise your. Return the dumbbell to the ground and alternate the rowing arm while stabilizing with the opposite arm. It is the stabilizing that creates incredible work for your entire midsection core area. Trust me... your abs will feel it!

2. Front Squats: put the barbell in front of your body on the front of your shoulders instead of resting on the upper back as in back squats. You stabilize the barbell on your shoulders by crossing your arms and pushing your fists into the bar against your shoulders while keeping your elbows out in front of the body. You might want to seek some assistance with your form from a professional trainer at your gym. Due to the barbell weight being shifted to the front of the body instead of the back, Front squats require extreme stabilization strength from the abs. Even though this is mostly a leg exercise, you'll feel this one in the abs big time!

3. Floor Climbers: Start in a pushup position and then shuffe your feet in and out so that your knees are moving in under your chest and then back out to starting position. You resemble climbing a mountain but you are flat on the floor. If that is too easy for you, shuffle your hands 8-10 inches forward and backward in addition to the leg movements. This really makes it a full body exercise and MUCH more difficult than standard mountain climbers.

Rest for about 30 seconds after each exercise. After each tri-set, rest for 1 to 2 minutes before repeating. Do 3 to 4 sets of each tri-set with 8 reps of each exercise.

Try it. You'll get the best ab workout you've ever had without actually doing any specific ab exercises and you'll cut time from your workout as you've actually exercised many different muscle groups at once.

The diet consists of eating foods according to a 7-day plan, as well as consuming unlimited amounts of Cabbage Soup. Since the bulk of food consumed during the diet is the soup, it is important to choose a recipe that you find tasty, as you will be eating this for 7 days. Here are some recipes used for the Cabbage Soup Diet.

4 Simple Things You Can Do To Gain Weight and Build Muscle Fast

Do you spend your days in the gym trying to gain weight and build muscle only to realise that your actually losing weight or not gaining a pound?

In the following article you will learn how you can gain weight and build muscle by simply following the information given below.

To gain weight and build muscle can be hard for the average hardgainer, so to gain weight successfully you need to put in place 4 main steps.

These include:

Eating more

Lifting Heavier Weights

Less workout days

Shorter workout routines

1. Eating more - You probably sick of hearing about eating more calories to gain weight, but it's true, and you should be doing this to gain weight and muscle.

You need to start calculating how much calories your taking in, so keep a diary of what you eat over a week. Write down the amount of calories your eating at the end of the 7 day week and look at what types of foods you are consuming. If you have too many junk foods in there then its time to cut it out and get eating some whole foods full of healthy nutrition.

To gain healthy muscle weight you should be consuming a ratio of 40% carbs, 30% Protein, and 30% Fats. But remember these all need to be good healthy foods.

2. Lifting heavier weights - This may seem obvious, heck, you have done it, my guess is you haven't done it properly. You should be lifting at a weight so that your muscles fail after 6-8 reps for the first set. The you need to increase it every set you do. Make sure you keep a note of how much you lift because you should be lifting heavier next time round. Lifting at this intensity will increase the stimulation to the muscles and increase muscle growth.

3. Less training days - This is the main cause of many trainers today, they simply train too much. If you train too many times during a week, your muscles won't have a chance at repairing and regrowing. You may even see muscle loss if you over train by too much.

4. Shorter workout routines - To gain weight and build muscle you only need to train for a maximum of 45 mins at a high intensity. You lift heavy and you should only do 3 to 4 sets of any exercise. If the weight you're lifting isn't making your muscles fail after 6 reps then get a heavier one.

The above steps are all very easy to implement and they are proven to gain weight and build muscle.

Find more info on how to gain muscle weight now or you can check out some weight training programs that will guide you step by step to building muscle through nutrition and training.

But here's the thing: many of these people, who are indeed consistent, still look the exact same year after year.

In other words they put in lots of time and effort but get little results.

Sound familiar?

Now this could certainly be an article about nutrition but that's not what I'm addressing here.

This article is about a certain "X-Factor" to making progress FAST.

If you want to lose "maximum fat in minimum time" and sculpt you're body in the shortest amount of time possible then this is a REQUIREMENT.

Unfortunately, it seems to still be a secret to millions.

What am I talking about?

Muscular failure.

When we're talking about exercise this is absolutely the quickest way to make progress.

I don't care what you want to do either - whether it's push ups, weight lifting at the gym, equipment bought off t.v, interval training..etc.

It doesn't matter.

If you want to see results fast then this concept is for you.

When you follow this principle you are in essence putting lots of stress on your muscles which requires them to find energy to develop and sustain themselves.

Now where do you think that energy is going to come from?

Fat.

By exercising to failure you're sending shockwaves through your body and sculpting it into a lean physique in the quickest way possible.

Realistic Weight Loss - Goals, Journey and Success!

Obviously Jean-Claude van Damme did not go to bed one night, struggling with love handles and belly fat, and woke up the next morning as a hunk of cheese! He had to maintain a proper training schedule and eating habits. Fact: you cannot continue your usual eating habits as a couch potato AND lose weight by popping diet pills! The media would like the general public to believe this propaganda, in order to sell more product.

The first step to successful and continuous weight loss is to set for yourself attainable goals. Consider this: it's more realistic to want to lose an average of 5 to 10 pounds a month, compared to wanting to lose 5 pounds a week. On the other hand be wearisome of mediocrity in setting very easy goals - you are only cheating yourself.

The second step is to have a good friend as companion during your weight loss journey, someone who is preferably not already, or close to goal weight. That way you can follow each other's progress and also act as conscience for the other person. Challenge each other to eat 6 smaller meals spaced out during the day, exercise preferably before breakfast to kickstart your metabolism, and drink plenty of ice-cold water during the day to always have something in your stomach and keep your metabolic rate up. Always include one breakout day during each week where you can eat practically anything ... the emphasis being on 'you can', not meaning you have to indulge in buffet - eat as much as you like - kind of eating sprees. Reward yourself with a decent meal with dessert, but do not supersize your portions to 'make up for lost time!' You will only be fooling yourself.

Finally, you should be reaping your rewards of success as you continue to eat properly and exercise regularly. You can easily implement Natural Weight Loss into your life if you set attainable goals. E.g. how much excess weight would I like to lose this month?

Francisco Lakay is the author of the exciting site Natural Weight Loss, where you will find free information to enhance your weight loss naturally! Previously struggling with being overweight, he can profess that these free weight loss tips definitely aided his loss of stomach fat and love handles.

Does Your Hoodia Weight Loss Regimen Work For You?

The miraculous benefits of Hoodia Gordonii have already been established by independent laboratory studies.

The plant's wonder molecule, P57, is touted to possess unrivaled appetite-suppressing qualities. Its original manufacturer, Phytopharm, completed a placebo-controlled clinical study in overweight, but otherwise healthy volunteers using the P57 extract from the plant.

The participants were split into two groups, with one group received the extract and the other received a placebo. Both groups were also told to continue their normal diet and exercise regimen. In comparing the P57 group to the Placebo group, the P57 group had a significant reduction in body fat, caloric intake and showed no adverse side effects.

Health Implications

According to independent laboratory studies, the implications of hoodia with regard to the treating obesity are quite significant. In animal studies using rats, it was shown that a significant decrease in calorie consumption was noted in rats that were given hoodia samples.

In addition, one major study conducted on obese humans saw an average daily calorie drop of about 1,000 calories by the 15th day of taking the supplement. Further research is still being conducted, as more studies are needed to study the immediate and long-term effects and safety of the supplement. Current research however, has not verified any immediate or long-term side effects when using hoodia.

General Indications To Follow

In ensuring the supplement is effective, users should know that dosages may vary. It's important to use the product as directed by the manufacturer. It would be best to also consult your physician before using this or any other weight-loss product.

The supplement was initially released into the US market in early 2004, and there more research needs to be done before the mechanisms of the medication could be fully understood. Consumers should use extra caution in choosing a good-quality supplement, and ensure that they are made by reputable product manufacturers.

Take in Less Calories, And You Lose Weight Faster

What makes Hoodia supplements quite unique is that they effectively work in preventing weight gain. As much as everyone argues about which is more effective, low carbohydrate or low fat, in the end losing weight is a simple equation.

Individuals are advised to take in less calories than they usually burn, and the faster they will lose weight. As you can not gain weight if you consume lesser calories than you burn, Hoodia gives you a powerful mechanism to fight hunger and therefore take in less calories. Most diet pills and supplements work by trying to increase the rate at which our body burns fat.

Individuals who take weight-loss supplements like these are advised that Hoodia may not work right away as you wish it could. Users generally feel the effects several weeks after taking the supplements.

The major effects of using the product includes a reduced interest in food, delay in the time after eating before hunger sets in again, getting a feeling of fullness more quickly, as well as garnering a general feeling of well-being. Hoodia is not a stimulant, has no known side effects, and appears to be safe for most people.

How Many Calories To Build Muscle

How many calories do you need for gaining muscle? How much protein? How many calories are you eating?

I get these questions a lot, and people really want to see my nutrition while using Jay Ferruggia's mass workouts.

So here it is...my calories, protein, nutrition plan, post-workout drinks, everything.

This was my best eating day, some days I slip and am probably closer to 4500 calories.

The bottom line is that you have to eat a lot of calories to build muscle. Most guys undereat and then complain about not being able to build muscle. They don't get stronger, they don't get bigger, but they just keep working out and spinning their wheels.

You can't be afraid of gaining 0.04% body fat. It's going to happen. However, you'll look so much better because you are going to gain pounds and pounds of muscle.

That's all possible with a good workout program, one that has you training 3-4 days per week on either a total body split or an upper-lower body split. If you train hard enough, you won't have enough energy for that 6-day per week crap.

By the way, I'm not using any muscle building supplements. No protein shakes, no Nitric Oxide products, no creatine, no pro-hormones. Creatine works, but you don't need any of that other worthless junk.

The Importance of Stretching - A Whole New View

Stretching: Here is a first step we can all do when trying to motivate ourselves to become more involved with Health & Fitness. Start your training program here.

Stretching is highly important, useful and vital to the construct of the human anatomy. So much so, that the designer and Creator of this endless marvel has built it into our nature as an involuntary act. The average person stretches as needed 95 percent of the time with little to no awareness that he or she is even doing it. It is such a key function that God didn't even leave it up to us to make sure it happened. Sure, we can choose to stretch when we want, but we do not need to be so actively involved each time such movement is needed or necessary.

Now I'm not speaking of the kind of stretching one does before or after a workout or training session. Nor am I referring to the times that it is necessary because of a cramp or soreness. I am only identifying your common everyday stretch. The stretch you do prior to standing up from watching TV during the commercials, or getting up from your desk at work or even getting up first thing in the morning. However, such stretches can be incorporated into your daily or weekly training plan. I strongly encourage you to become more actively involved in common everyday stretching. Add these stretches to your Health & Fitness plan. Why?

Well, first of all, they are easy to do. You don't need any fancy equipment or fitness training tools. Secondly, they can be done anywhere. I do mean anywhere. No one will be any the wiser, suspect or lost as to your 'curious' behavior. And thirdly they are not time consuming in any fashion.

But what's the most important reason? What takes place, what happens on the inside, when you find your self needing to stretch? Well, when do you find yourself needing to stretch the most? When you're tired and needing to stay awake, when you've sat still for too long, when your muscles ache, twitch or fall asleep & even when you first wake up in the morning. This is because stretching stimulates muscle, it improves your breathing which helps to oxygenate the blood, it increases blood flow to the brain and it helps to increase your heart rate. It also strengthens and relaxes muscle and improves body composition and stature.

Have you ever noticed when becoming tired you feel compelled to yawn? Yawning is a stretch and it helps to oxygenate the blood and increase flow to the brain. There is a 'monitoring control center' that keeps track of certain functions in the body. When the nervous system relates back to the brain that these functions are operating below their proper levels ... you yawn.

So I say all of this to encourage you to stretch more often. Do it on purpose, do it knowing what you're doing, but by all means do it. It's a great start to the best workout.

Natural Weight Loss Tip - Eat Slower

You've heard for years that you should eat slower if you want to lose weight. But is this good advice? Yes, and I'll show you why.

Stress is so much a part of daily life that most of us don't even notice it even more, at least consciously. However, there are certainly parts of your body that do notice, and one important part is our digestive system.

Eating a meal on the run is a signal to many organs and glands in your body that you are under stress. Eating fast can mean chomping down a sandwich or burger during lunch, eating a bagel while driving to work, or just rushing through your evening meal so you can go watch your favorite TV show. Because you're in a hurry, your body will think you're under stress at the same time that the food hits the stomach.

So imagine that food sitting there in your tummy, while at the same time your heart rate is speeding up, your blood pressure is rising, and certain hormones that are released in response to stress begin coursing through your body.

In addition to the adrenaline, noradrenalin and cortisol that is now flooding your system, your blood flow is also redirected away from your digestive system to give more blood to your brain and muscles.

Why does all this happen? Because the physical parts of your body can't tell the difference between a real threat, (lion charging, bus running a red light, etc.), and a false threat (your class starts in five minutes so you grab a hot dog and eat it on the way to school).

Being late, not having enough time, and feeling under pressure to do something more important than eating are all real problems, no doubt about it. But they are not life-threatening problems.

Unfortunately, your body doesn't know that, so it shuts down your digestive processes to save energy for the all-important fight or flight response.

Of course, you aren't going to fight - or flee. However, you might end up with a high risk of heartburn or other digestive upset, and your metabolism is going to slow down.

And sadly for those of us who are trying to lose weight, the stress hormones we talked about earlier will make you fatter, even if you don't eat more.

One of the key stress hormones is cortisol. Cortisol is not a "bad" hormone - your body needs it for a variety of important functions, such as regulating your blood sugar level, keeping your energy level up and your immune system functioning well, and helping your body heal.

However, chronically high levels of this hormone, will tell the body to store more fat - especially around your middle. And many Americans complain of chronic stress. That's one of the reasons why there is such a strong connection between obesity and stress.

Chronic stress can also release higher levels of insulin than your body needs, and some diet authors believe this can also lead to more fat deposits, although this has not yet been proven.

Worrying about what you eat can also increase your stress level. It seems unfair, but a constant anxiety about what you should be eating - or whether or not you already ate too much, or about how "bad" you're being because you're now eating some potato chips or ice cream - will bring on all those metabolism-slowing stress hormones.

So if you do eat something that isn't "on your diet," be sure to enjoy it! Simple pleasure and taking your time will reduce the number of extra calories that end up on your butt.

So, if you want a quick way to get your body burning that extra fat, just slow down when you eat. Take some deep breaths before you begin eating and let go of any issues or problems that are plaguing you. Chew slowly, and pay attention to the flavors and textures of your food. Be sure to enjoy the process of eating. (Eating is supposed to be enjoyable, remember?) Then you won't have a stress response telling your digestive system to shut down, and your hormones won't be working against your weight loss goals.

Sport-Specific Interval Conditioning

In many sports, a high level of aerobic fitness is necessary for optimal performance because it promotes endurance and assists recovery in "stop-and-go" type sports such as ice hockey. To improve aerobic fitness, coaches have traditionally prescribed long and tedious sessions of continuous sub-maximal exercise for athletes, regardless of their sport-specific metabolic demands.

Most team sports are not characterized by continuous sub-maximal movement speeds BUT/ rather these sports demand periods of high-intensity effort interspersed with maximal bursts of speed and periods of almost complete inactivity. Take soccer for example, a player may move at a moderate speed for minutes while following the play and then will be forced to sprint at their maximal pace for the ball. After that, the player could be faced with a stoppage in play of up to a minute due to various factors.

Considering the endless possibilities, is long-duration, moderate-intensity aerobic training the best method of conditioning these types of athletes? In my opinion it is not. What then are the alternatives? Let us consider "aerobic interval (AI) training" as a more beneficial manner at increasing the aerobic fitness and sport-specific muscular endurance of an athlete in a "stop-and-go" team sport.

Aerobic interval training provides a more sport-specific training intensity, a greater training stimulus that can be applied to the muscles used in the specific activities, and may also be an advanced training method for endurance training athletes looking to overcome a plateau in their aerobic fitness levels.

The intensity level of this training technique is much higher than the intensity level commonly associated with aerobic training. The exercise stimulus may in fact be very damaging to the muscle in its initial attempts and can result in muscle soreness in the days following the training session.

Therefore, prior to beginning a "full-blown" training regimen of AI's, the athlete should develop general muscular strength and endurance and perform a short "lead-in" program of general aerobic exercise (2 weeks; 3 sessions per week; 20 minutes; high-intensity; sport-specific activity).

The initial (first week; 2 sessions) AI training sessions should be conservative in training volume (3-5 intervals) to accustom the muscles and joints to the intensity. As well, a thorough and specific warm-up should be performed as well as pre- and post-exercise flexibility routines.

AI training involves alternating bouts of exercise with recovery periods. A sport-specific mode of exercises is performed for a short duration (2-5 minutes) and followed by an equal length rest interval. High-intensity work is the key factor in this type of training. By incorporating rest intervals, the athlete can work at a much higher (and more sport-specific) power output in comparison to traditional aerobic training.

Determining the intensity of the exercise bout is definitely the trickiest component of the training prescription. The "work" pace should elicit the individual's maximal heart rate by the end of the exercise bout. For example, if a 20-year old athlete (max HR = ~200) ran a 3-minute interval then their 10-second heart rate count should be ~ 33 beats (33 x 6 = 198) at the end of exercise. An example distance for a 3-minute running interval would be ~ 800m. Basically, the athlete wants to pick a training intensity that they believe they could hold constant for up to 10-minutes.

Obviously, picking the intensity can be very subjective unless the facility has "high-tech" training equipment. As the AI intensity should correspond to about 95-100% of the individual's VO2 max, if the athlete has access to high-tech training technology then a more accurate training prescription may be allowed.

Providing an adequate and complete rest interval is paramount! The rest interval must be of an extremely low-intensity so that sufficient recovery will occur and the next work interval can again be performed at a high power output. Do not sacrifice the quality of rest because this will only reduce the benefit of AI training. A reduced recovery will prevent lactate clearance (lactate = muscle fatigue), phosphate energy (CP & ATP) recovery, and improvements in aerobic metabolism. Remember this is not continuous training!

Many athletes that have traditionally trained with only long-slow distance workouts may have difficulty with this concept at the outset of the program, however these athletes will soon become more comfortable in taking a full-length recovery interval.

At ~ 2-minutes of maximal exercise the contribution of the anaerobic & aerobic energy systems are nearly equal and at 5-minutes the contribution is 30% anaerobic & 70% aerobic. Therefore, the high-intensity, short-duration nature of AI allows sport-specific demands to be applied. Training at such a high-intensity recruits the fast-twitch muscle fibers. These fibers are predominantly responsible for anaerobic performance, BUT/ by improving the aerobic system of these fibers, they will be able to recover quicker and be ready to contribute to sprint-performance with less rest time.

The adaptations in the body will be occurring predominantly at the muscle level. The muscle fibers will increase their ability to extract and use oxygen, BUT/ the improvements on oxygen delivery (heart and lung adaptations) may be minimal. The athlete will also improve their ability to tolerate lactate (lactic acid buildup in the muscle and blood) and will be ready to start ANAEROBIC INTERVAL training in the pre-season.

ANAEROBIC intervals match precisely the demands of the sport. For example, a hockey ANAEROBIC interval would be maximal exercise for 30-45 seconds followed by 1-3 minutes of recovery. ANAEROBIC INTERVAL training prescription needs to be addressed in an article of its own, perhaps in the near future...

AEROBIC INTERVAL training prescription

: 2-3 minutes & equal recovery

: progress to 10-12 intervals

: @ 95-100% VO2max; don't go TOO hard! (8-10 min pace)

: ~ maxHR at end of interval

Warmup Work Interval Recovery Interval

Fluids should be available at all times throughout the training session to help combat dehydration. Unfortunately many athletes may not feel comfortable consuming a high-volume of water OR sports drink while undergoing this intensity of training. To compensate, ensure adequate pre-hydration (make it a habit to drink sufficient fluids daily) and excess post-exercise fluid intake. The athlete should use AI to train the body to consume fluids during rest intervals of competition. Remember the importance of being well hydrated (dehydration can cause a reduction in endurance).

WARNING:

Your legs will feel like JELLO upon completion of this workout for the first time! The muscle glycogen (carbohydrate energy) stores will be extremely depleted and muscle fatigue will be high also due to lactate accumulation. Therefore, take caution in the scheduling of the remainder of your training day and the following day because of reduced neuromuscular coordination and fatigue. However, full recovery should occur within 24-48 hours. Make sure to consume a high-carbohydrate snack immediately after exercise and to maintain a diet with sufficient carbohydrate foods and fluids.

Therefore, AI training should occur in a sport-specific manner. The intensity and duration of the intervals should increase in specificity as the pre-season draws closer. Therefore, AI's train the body to perform repeated intervals of high-power outputs with the end result being an increase in sport performance.

Dieting Sucks? 5 Tips To Keep Your Weight-Loss Hope Going

Nobody likes dieting. Generally, a person may put on about 5 to 10 pounds a year. So what can a person who hates dieting do to keep off the excess weight?

Here are 5 simple tips to help you:

1. You Must Have The Right Attitude

When you are younger, you can eat whatever you like, anytime, and yet do not get fat. Yes, but do you realise that your metabolism then was working hard for you? Now, you cannot just eat and hope the same thing will happen to your body. You must be disciplined to moderate your eating habits. You must have that right attitude to pass that pizza and cheese cake.

2. Eat Only What You Need

Do not stuff yourself silly during meal time. Avoid those "all-you-can-eat" buffet, and during meal, stop when you fill slightly full. Do go for those fresh fruits as a rewarding dessert instead.

3. Be On The Move

If you hate to go to the gym like I am, but love to watch the NBA or PGA programs on TV, then don't just sit on the couch. Imitate the moves of your favorite players executing their moves. Just watch out not to break any of your furniture. You may want to bring your kids for a walk just after dinner. They will appreciate the talks and companionship, not to mention enjoying the fresh evening air and exercise.

4. Keep Cool!

Do you know that when you get stressed, the consequences can be detrimental to your health? You will smoke more, eat more and drink more. Just remember to take in deep breaths and count to 10 and your anger or stress will subside. Keep a cool head.

5. Remove Those Temptations

If you are easy prey to snacks like chips or crackers, then the best way would be to clear those unhealthy foods from the house. Instead, stock up fresh vegetables and fruits in your fridge. They are good snack alternatives to your chips and crackers.

Here you have it, 5 simple tips. Not to worry if you can't do all 5, just choose one that you are confident of achieving. You can try the others slowly.

Remember, you must have fun on your weight loss effort, and most important, be happy. Yes, you can still lose weight easy even when you are not undergoing any dieting program.

Weight Loss Program Diet Tips - Healthy Snacks That Satisfy

Healthy weight loss programs don't have to mean diet drudgery. Sure, you may have to give up certain foods, but for most of us it's about food and snack choices that allow us to still eat foods we enjoy the taste of, but that are lower in fat, sugar, and empty carbohydrates. Since many of us eat healthy meals but sabotage our diets by snacking on the wrong foods, learning to replace them with satisfying but healthy treats can put us back on course. These weight loss tips should help.

Here's some quick, tasty, and satisfying snacks that will bolster your weight loss program.

  • Feel like you want a sweet snack, but you're not sure what?

First, try a glass of juice-water. What the heck is juice water? Think of it as a weight loss supplement. It's an invention on mine to make sure I get enough water, which I have a hard time drinking by itself. Fill a glass 7 or 8 parts with water, and top off the rest with orange juice, lemonade, limeade, ruby red grapefruit, or whatever you prefer. It makes a tasty, filling, and often craving-crushing treat that's also very low in sugar.

Healthy Weight Loss Diet Tip: Never drink your juices straight up. Way too much sugar. Always dilute them as juice water. This habit alone will trim calories off your weight loss diet every day. It also stretches your grocery dollars if you use lemonade or limeade concentrates. They're far less costly than orange juice, and ounce for ounce their stronger taste does a more efficient job of flavoring your water.

  • Need something with "mouth feel"? In other words, something to chew on?

If you definitely feel the need for something to satisfy the eating urge, try a tablespoon of peanut butter, which should be on almost everyone's weight loss diet program. It has just enough fat for flavor and just enough sweetness to satisfy. For it's size and caloric value, it's also filling. Want to juice it up? Dip-up a little of your favorite fruit preserve. It also makes a quick one-spoonful dessert.

  • Feel like you gotta have some chocolate ice cream?

Try chocolate Ovaltine and milk. It's chocolaty, it's delicious, and it includes vitamins and minerals. It's also far more filling than ice cream, which is in fact not filling at all. But use just one or two tablespoons of Ovaltine, not the recommended four. One or two is plenty, and it reduces your sugar consumption.

Another chocolate ice cream switcheroo is hot chocolate, but don't reach for the chemical-laden packaged mix. Instead, heat a cup of milk in the microwave for 1.5 to 2 minutes, then add one or two tablespoons of Ovaltine.

  • Have a hankering for a pastry?

Just make sure you grab a few weight loss pills to go with it. Instead, have a piece of toast with jam. Whole grain bread has real protein, and far fewer carbs than pastry. If you toast it, you also improve the fiber benefit for your body. Add a thin layer of apple butter for extra satisfaction. (Apple butter has less sugar than other fruit jellies and preserves.)

Substitutes: honey on the bread instead of preserves, and half of an English muffin instead of a slice of whole grain bread.

  • You can squelch almost any sweet tooth attack with a healthy serving of fruit.

Try to always keep around a bag of apples and oranges. Since you can't always get the fruit you want in season, keep some raisins in the pantry. Just a small scoop will satisfy almost any sweet tooth. But be sure to brush your teeth afterwards. Raisins are really good at sticking to your teeth, and you don't want the sugar hanging around there.

Other suggestions:

  • Small handful of peanuts, almonds, or cashews = healthy fats and protein.
  • A few small pieces of extra sharp cheese. The sharpness is important, because the sharper the cheese, the more flavor each piece contains. The more flavor, the quicker your taste buds are satisfied. The cheese advantage is that it packs protein, calcium, and a little fat in each chunk.
  • For extra enjoyment without added calories, brew a cup of coffee to have with the cheese. Coffee and sharp cheeses are a match made in heaven.
  • If you definitely need a large snack or small meal, cottage cheese and pineapple chunks are fast and easy. If you buy canned pineapple chunks, be sure to check the label for sugar content; they're not all alike. This combination gives you calcium, protein, a little fat, and fruit fiber.

Sure, every now and again you need to let go and eat that big bowl of chocolate ice cream. When the time comes, savor it for all it's worth. But on a daily basis, if you'll make some sensible substitutions in the snacking department, you'll lower your daily calorie intake and put yourself on track for long-term healthy weight loss and proper diet management.
